I drive at least ten miles out of my way and deal with a crammed parking garage for this gem. Consistently fresh, well-priced, and freakin delicious. The same two guys have been running this place for years. Don't judge a book by its cover! The food is incredible.

College town sushi for students. Nothing against the sushi, it's not bad at all. I went to a lot of the top notch Japanese restaurants and was perfectly aware of what I was going into when eat at Sushi Kicchin. Where the stars lost has to do with the follow things: - Service suck ball big time. The dude there was more busy chatting with buddies who ended up giving 5 stars on yelp then actually roll his damn rice. Lots and lots of waiting, lots and lots of clock ticking. - Hygiene. Kinda like the don't ask don't tell policy, I should've not sit there by the bar and waiting for the sushi roller to bullshit with his friends, because that directed my attention to the little fish fridge/display. Seeing the condensate dripping on seemingly fresh fish suddenly activated my OCD-ness, for about 15 minutes. Rolls were okay quality, but ain't cheap by no mean, and sadly I watched the rusty-fridged fish being made in front of my eyes. Yek!!

Very good sushi bar to order take-out sushi. Two sushi makers are good and professional in sushi making. Spider roll is even better than those in some dine-in restaurants. Small rolls, like spicy salmon, are tasty too. There was one time I did not feel good after I had their sushi and my friend told me Sushi Kitchen may not have very fresh sushi everyday during summer/winter vacation due to the fact that students are not in town any more and the inventory may stay longer in their kitchen. My friend did not feel good twice after having their sushi during vacation months. Not sure if it happens lot to other customers or not.

I stopped here for lunch during my first week attending University of Iowa. Ordered a California Roll and Miso Soup for $6 or so. That is a great price for a sushi and soup lunch. The staff are not speed demons but they still are efficient. They cracked some jokes while I was waiting at the short eating area in front and were very polite. They answered all of my questions about the restaurant nicely. And finally, the food arrived! Perfect portion of miso came out and was savory and perfect. 8 pieces in the california rolls. That is a lot for five bucks. Tasted super fresh and they did not forget the wasabi and ginger. They even asked if I wanted those, and I thought that was cool so they avoid waste. I give this place a 4 but that still is a favorite restaurant level. I definitely will choose this as my main sushi restaurant.

I absolutely love Sushi Kicchin. It's my go to spot for a quick lunch. The sushi is fantastic and the service is quick, I recommend the shrimp tempura and ask for the orange chili sauce! 5 bucks for a great easy lunch option. I could easily go here 3 times a week or more.

Great service, food was fantastic and very friendly! Highly recommended even though it is in the food court, don't let that fool you!

Good price for 8 pieces. Tastes good.

By far the best sushi in Iowa City!!! I used to get sucked into the faux class of Takanami, Oyama and Formosa but now I can't stomach their rolls. Sushi Kiccin makes their rolls with very fresh ingredients and you can tell the guys running the place know what they're doing when it comes to sushi. Sure, the place could be a little cleaner and the guys could be a little more attentive but you're paying for good food not the fakery you find at other places in Iowa City. Try the spicy tuna roll ($5) and the miso soup ($1) for lunch and you won't regret it!

Lets start out with the quality of food: Its good. Not a huge variety but everything there is done very well. Don't let the whole "food court sushi" thing get to ya, I've heard this complaint before, but it is unfounded, living in Asian communities, I've learned that some of the BEST food comes from tiny vendors in food courts that are PASSIONATE about their craft. This is exactly what these guys are doing, and quickly and at a modest price. Go check them out.

I go here quite a bit. It's the best place to go if you want fast, fresh sushi to go. Wish they had more variety, but hey, it's a small kitchen.

I've been coming here for about 7 years and it is by far without a doubt the best sushi in Iowa City. The owner is awesome. A few years ago my boyfriend at the time and I saw him downtown and he bought us both drinks for being regulars! Actually I'm pretty sure he has met all of my boyfriends through college and after just from my bringing them here... I think spicy tuna became my favorite roll because of this place and I compare every one I try anywhere else to theirs (no one else comes close to that delicious and mysterious spicy mayo recipe).

If you are looking for lunch time sushi, this is the place! Handmade, right in front of you. Love the spicy tuna here! It's in the Old Capital Mall. Very friendly staff! You can take out or eat right at the sushi bar.

Best sushi in Iowa City! Love the spicy white tuna and the Godzilla roll.

Came here to try sushi for the first time, and I was shy and nervous. I have never stopped going. It's not just about the food. These guys not only deliver the most fresh and delicious food in the city, but you walk away laughing or with a new feeling of inspiration from talking with them. I go there for food, friendship, and even a little therapy sometimes. Even if you do not like sushi, stop by, bring friends who do, and try something. You won't be sorry and will find reasons to come back.

Outstanding service, outstanding food, best place for sushi in Iowa City. The prices are outstanding too, but their customer service is second to none. No other restaurant has gone the extra mile for me when I couldn't feel my face after going to the dentist. Amazing

This place was my first expierence with sushi and I am thrilled that I am officially obsessed. I have tried other places, but the guys that work here are really nice and funny. It makes the experience much more enjoyable. When I recommend this place to others they usually write it off because it's in the Old Capital Mall, but when I finally convince them to come, they understand the hype. It is also rather affordable compared to the other sushi places in town.

Sushi Kicchen has everything I expect from a local sushi joint. My weekly diet consists of at least one visit to Sushi Kicchen for spicy tuna or a spider roll, and miso soup or seaweed salad. Cheap prices, quality food, and entertaining conversation. I can stop in and order, shop for groceries at CVS, pick up my sushi and then I'm back in my office in no time. Sometimes they're busy, but it's great to see, and always worth it.

If you want fancy, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want good, fresh rolls for lunch, then I definitely recommend SK. The staff is nice, the sushi is good, and you can eat at the bar, the mall or easily take it to go. I love their spicy tuna rolls and the eel rolls. I've eaten here a bunch of times -- not enough to be a regular yet -- but I'm working on it.

Love the sushi, hate the service! One of the owners/managers was texting the whole time I was trying to order and then proceeded to try and make me pay twice because he had forgotten that I'd paid. Like I said the sushi is good but unfortunately not good enough to be ignored when you're trying to give them your business and money!
